Easy Data Transfer Between Azure SQL Server Instances

dev, database comments edit

A few weeks ago I needed to migrate data from a SQL Server instance on Azure to another one. I looked around a bit but couldn’t find a satisfactory solution. I had to export the data as insert scripts and run them on the target server. Yesterday a colleague told me a far better way to do this using Visual Studio 2015: SQL Server Object Explorer.

It’s a fantastic tool for such scenarios. All you have to do is create 2 connections for source and target

Then you right-click on one of them and select Data Comparison which pops up the following dialog.

The rest is just following the comparison wizard. Select the source, select the destination and compare. It displays all the differences and you can select which ones to apply to the destination and run! That’s all.
